Ismailia a Deserted Tourist Stop For War Remnants
Tourists in Ismailia arrive not for monuments but to aid reopening the Suez Canal with American and Egyptian forces sweeping mines. They hike the Bar-Lev line’s blast-scarred ridges with military guides, photograph a retired Israeli tank, and glimpse a city near the October war front that failed to become a battlefield. Sands hide trenches and tanks, leaving Ismailia largely an archaeological scene viewed from helicopters in dusty winds.
