Chicago police hunted for a motive in the scissors slaying of 57 year old widow Mrs Hazel Grinde Tuesday night. She was stabbed nine times with seven inch scissors found in the bathroom. Daughter Alice 27 found the body after returning from a dinner party. Landlord Joseph Carey 54 and the daughter were released after questioning. Mrs Grinde widow of Ole M Grinde a Chicago Loan Company official who died in a horse fall in 1943.
Governor Scott announced Miss Martha Fleming will become chief clerk to the utilities commission next Monday. Fleming, a former teacher and principal, has served as the governor's personal secretary since January 5 and previously worked on his campaign headquarters. The move signals expanded roles for women in his administration and follows earlier questions about female appointments to the education board.
