Monnie O'Dare Buys Time From Dan Cardigan
Monnie, a young shop clerk, endures daily pressures from poverty and family duties while Dan Cardigan hints at leaving Sandra for her, provoking jealousy and longing. Monnie imagines a freer life in New York, and Mrs. Burke’s errands at Vernon's drug store punctuate her longing for escape as she faces a restless, constrained day.
