State Farms to Skip Growing Cotton This Year

Raleigh April 28 No commercial cotton will be grown on state owned farms this year. Prison farms cultivated 3,300 acres two years ago and 1,100 in 1931. Elimination aligns with Gov Gardner’s plan to reduce cash crops and boost food and feed crops. A small area will grow long staple cotton seed for distribution under a better seed program. Caledonia prison farm will cultivate 7,407 acres.
