Young Negroes Arrested In Charleston Disorder
In Charleston, about 40 members of the Association of Black Collegians seized Colgate University’s faculty club seeking a black cultural center as negotiations with President Franklin W. Wallin continued. At CCNY, demonstrations closed entrances as talks persisted with student representatives. Hampton Institute students occupied administration buildings demanding higher faculty pay and tenure reforms. Police and National Guardsmen monitored arrests of demonstrators cited for disobeying officers.
