New York police dispersed about 400 demonstrators at 140th street and Lenox avenue as they barred a parade against the Scottsboro case. Claremore Oklahoma April 25 Governor Harry F Woodring of Kansas denounced the Hoover administration as autocratic and urged a return to Democratic power to address economic woes. He said the Republicans have been the party of Andrew Mellon and claim ownership of the country after three Mellon presidents.
Elizabeth Gilmer of New Orleans known as Dorothy Dix will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters by Ogie Thorpe University in May. She shares the honor with Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt who will receive a Doctor of Laws degree. Gilmer previously served on the staffs of the New Orleans Times Picayune and the New York Journal.
Jake F. Newell, a Charlotte lawyer and Republican leader, will run for the U S Senate in 1932. He says the aim is to build a party trusted by all and bring government to the homes of the people while aligning with national party councils regardless of past affiliations. He admires Horace Mann but doubts Hoover can be defeated at the next convention and warns against nominating anyone else.
A printing press that began service in 1886 produced its final issue of the Falmouth Enterprise. The 45 year old press will be donated to Henry Ford for his museum collection in Dearborn Michigan.
Raymond Benjamin of San Francisco, a personal friend of President Hoover, has taken a major role in organizing Hoover forces for the 1930s renomination. He worked in Washington all winter from a local law office, often linked in rumor to the White House but says he seeks no public office and has no direct ties to the Republican National Committee.
W L Harding former Iowa governor says farmers in the middle west are solidly aligned with the Farm Board and Hoover administration. He announced this after a conference with Senator Dickinson of Iowa and Robert H Lucas of the Republican National Committee following meetings across several states.

In Mobile Alabama near a creek during a school picnic a boat overturned. Three children Billy Stewart age 12 Ruth Wilbur age 11 and Harold Browning age 14 all from the suburbs drowned. Five others were rescued with Buck Lewis age 20 credited for saving four survivors. Bodies not recovered.
Frank Nassif was sentenced to three years in a federal penitentiary at Atlanta or an $1000 fine and 18 months for violating bankruptcy laws. His brother George Nassif was freed by directed verdict after evidence showed he left the firm months before proceedings began.
Winchester police chief Trey Cleevenger and an unidentified bandit fatally shot each other during a pursuit after a Richmond store robbery. An additional man in the bandit car fled, pushing his partner out of the vehicle as it sped away.
In Duxbury Massachusetts the grave of Myles Standish was opened for a second time in forty years. The bones were moved to an hermetically sealed casket and a new concrete tomb was prepared. A metal tube with settlement records prepared by Dr Myles Standish of Boston was placed in the coffin.
Mrs. E K R Mosher of Chapel Hill was reelected state president and Miss Marguerite Herr of Durham reelected state secretary at the North Carolina Association of University Women annual convention in Durham.
Raleigh reports no word yet from post office inspectors believed en route from Washington to seize senatorial ballot boxes for a Senate subcommittee probe of the Bailey Pritchard contest. Governor Gardner and L T Yarborough say no contact or arrival has occurred and no action was taken on impounding ballots.
The Philadelphia Bulletin cites General Butler recounting a March 26 luncheon tale of entering a Haitian fort via a drainage pipe. He notes volunteers, shared danger, and that all three earned the congressional medal of honor in a humorous offhand account.
The Prince of Wales and Prince George sailed tonight for Bordeaux aboard the cruiser Kent. A detachment of Portuguese troops paid them the honor of the country at the quay.
