Tiburon Islanders Not Cannibals Debunked by Voyage
San Diego April 26 Aboard the Velero Captain George Alan Hancock reports Tiburon Island off Tower California is not inhabited by cannibal Indians but by shy natives living in grass huts. The 8000 mile coastal cruise down Baja California and into the Gulf of California finds civilization there unchanged from 100 years ago. Hancock describes pearl fishing at La Paz using primitive methods and notes Mexican officials discussing an American colony at Magdalena Bay. He warns about primitive charts near Guaymas causing the Velero to run aground at several points during their voyage.
