Jury Bias Claim Shapes Little Murder Case in NC
Joan Little, a 20 year old black woman charged with the ice pick killing of Beaufort County jailer Clarence Alligood, told reporters she believed racial prejudice affected Beaufort County jury selection. Defense argues grand jury was improperly constituted, seeking to quash the indictment as attorneys press for cross section fairness while Little observes from court two floors above the jail cell.

Evacuation Run Accelerates as Saigon Pullout Intensifies
Soviet Americans flown from Phnom Penh earlier this month completed their escape with minor issues. Pentagon officials fear North Vietnamese fire could jeopardize U.S. transport planes and helicopters evacuating Americans and South Vietnamese from Tan Son Nhut airport. Senior defense officials urged faster pullout to avert an emergency crunch, boosting departures aboard C141 transports. Five U.S. aircraft and helicopter carriers with about 10 Navy ships and 4,000 Marines wait in the South China Sea ready to assist if needed.
