Court deputies detained reporters Jay Hampton and Martin Helms and photographer Hel, two hours, after seizing them for taking pictures of jurors in a Gastonia restaurant. Judge Fate Beal of Le Noir said jurors in a murder case were cooperating with the court to ensure a fair trial. Helms claimed action was taken under authority.
In Burgaw North Carolina state investigators pursue arson suspects as wildfires rise to around 1200 since April. Officials say about two thirds of fires are believed caused by arsonists and firebugs. State Forester Ralph Winkworth and regional forester Ted Banner comment on containment status.
