New Tax Measure Opened in House Battle for Reform
Washington April 21 A revenue bill to reform taxation and raise about 700 000 000 to 800 000 000 was introduced in the house by Ways and Means Chairman Doughton. The 249 page measure would revamp the corporate tax system, apply the normal 4 percent income tax to corporate dividends, tax foreign stockholders’ dividends, repeal the corporate income tax and related levies, and impose an 85 percent windfall tax on processors evading AAA taxes. House leaders plan three weeks of floor time to move the measure toward the Senate.
