Castro claims major Cuban invasion repelled on southern beaches

Fidel Castro announced that rebel invaders were wiped out on Cuba's southern beaches and large stocks of U S arms captured, including Sherman tanks, while admitting heavy losses. Rebels said main force reached Escambray mountains to resume fight. Moscow and U S officials warned of consequences and a new rebel radio station reported continued activity in the Escambray.

Court reform measure advances in House committee

A North Carolina House committee reported favorably on a compromise court reform proposal and killed three related bills. Only Rep. Crawford opposed the compromise. Rep. Kerr voted present.
