Davis and Stanton Lead as Moffitt Is Eliminated in City Primary

In a three way mayoral race Davis led with 1854 votes and Stanton followed at 1091 while incumbent Moffitt trailed with 897. Ward by ward council results show Millis 2082 and Grayson 1056 in the first ward, with other wards led by Sheloff 1540 and Blake 1619 in the second, Clinard 2095 and Bradner 919 in the third, Worth 1193 and Conrad 1408 in the fourth. Precincts reveal Stanton and Moffitt strong in the north. Davis swept all but two precincts. Davis and Stanton now face off in the general contest as Moffitt concedes.

Deadly Line Squalls Roar Across Central Illinois

A series of line squalls swept from Greene County through Sangamon and Logan counties causing at least 19 deaths and about 100 serious injuries. Property damage neared 1 million dollars with towns like Buffallo Hart and Cornland nearly leveled.
