The treasury abolished the inactive gold fund created in 1936 to stem inflation from large gold imports. The fund was already empty as Roosevelt redirected $1.182 billion of gold from the sterile account to pay for new programs and expand bank credit. Fayetteville April 19 Cumberland county N H McGeachy said G dale Odum of St Pauls Robeson county surrendered last night after officers hunted him all day for questioning in the death of J B Bumgardner 55 year old carpenter. Odum was taken to Robesonco on a coroner s warrant pending an inquest. Bumgardner reported last April 2 that two hitch hikers attacked him after asking to be taken to St Pauls.
The mother of former child star Jackie Coogan refuses to disclose current finances as deposition for an accounting suit moves forward. Coogan alleges earnings amount to four million dollars and sues his mother and stepfather Arthur L Bernstein for an audit of film income.
