Miami Hotel Fire Claims One Woman

A downtown Miami Haven Hotel blaze killed Virginia Hopkins 39 and burned 68 year old Charles Foster severely. The top floor fire trapped more than a dozen guests who were rescued by ladders as fire department crews battled the flames. Fire officials cited a vertical separation wall as a factor limiting spread. Police said about 25 others on lower floors were awakened by screams and evacuated, with adjoining hotel residents also moved to safety.
