Highway patrols considered for state roads in 1929
Raleigh April 18. Pennsylvania registrar Benjamin G. Eynon urged a state highway police and drivers license in an address to the Carolina Motor Club. He cited a 90 percent approval for patrols and license, described patrols as enforcers of motor laws, and noted a Save-a-life campaign and free car inspections revealing 45 percent of cars with mechanical defects. Pennsylvania plans 385 patrolmen now, aiming for 500 next year. The license exam prevents about 9,000 unfit drivers from operating cars annually.
