Greensboro Area Road Name Changes Scheduled Public Hearing

A Guilford County hearing Wednesday in Greensboro will review proposed street name changes in Jamestown Township east of High Point. The plan aims to eliminate duplicates and place signs at intersections to guide residents and emergency services, with names like Copper Mine Road and Riverdale Road replacing several existing designations. Mayor Davis Honored For Ten Years Of Service

High Point officials and residents gathered Friday night for a nonpartisan tribute to retiring Mayor Robert Davis a Republican who will complete nearly a decade as mayor. About 200 attended the Bob Davis Banquet at the Sheraton Hotel as part of Bob Davis Day with many political figures from both parties praising his leadership and service to the city.

Wrecks Hurt Six In City. Several In Satisfactory Condition

Six people were injured in Friday wrecks with two listed in satisfactory condition at High Point Memorial Hospital. Oliver Taft Pope 29 of Hilburn Drive remained in intensive care after his car left Rotary Drive, struck a utility pole near Creek Side Drive. Mary Jane Workman of Thomasville was admitted after her car ran off East Chester Drive and hit a tree near Riverside Drive. Betty Ann Hughes of Grant Avenue was hurt when William Muse’s car left the road in Floral Garden Cemetery and struck a tree. John Franklin Anderson 50, a State Highway Dept. surveyor, was struck on Greensboro Road while working. James Colbert Winningham was charged with DUI after attempting to pass cars. Damages included $800 to survey equipment. Gary Blaine Poston was thrown 25 feet when his motorcycle hit a dog on Lexington Avenue near Carolina Avenue. Deborah Lynn Grubb was injured hitting a parked vehicle on Manor Drive near Orville Drive and charged with failure to reduce speed. the parked car was owned by Merania Patterson Watson.

Improvements Top Building Permits 2024 Citywide

Building permit total reaches 402454 with seven business-improvement permits valued at 294499 and four for nut houses at 56500. Additional permits cover fencing, dwelling improvements, repairs, roofing, church and corporate structures, and two new houses. Notable projects include College Heights Baptist Church addition, Piedmont Chemical Industries office building, and W Mickey Body Company office building.

Guilford County to hear bond plan for six projects

Guilford County commissioners plan a Monday public hearing on a six item bond program totaling thirty million dollars for schools GTI jail water and sewer lines and waste disposal. The plan totals forty nine point seven million including tax increases and federal aid.

Youth bound over in death of Macklyn Lavette Little

Jerry Wayne Allen of 810 Vail Street was bound over to Superior Court on voluntary manslaughter charges in the death of 23 month old Macklyn Lavette Little, daughter of Cynthia Diane Little of Ennis Street. Judge Ed Washington ruled sufficient evidence for trial on manslaughter, bond set at 1000 dollars. Testimony showed the child left with Allen at 10:45 p.m. Feb 7 then taken to High Point Memorial where she died of a brain hemorrhage about three and a half hours before arrival. Autopsy also noted bruises on the child and biting marks.
