Highway Revision Opposed by Greensboro Official to High Point
State Highway Commissioner John Van Lindley of Greensboro plans to meet with High Point Mayor George Covington within a few days to discuss a proposed federal state road swap that would reroute U S Highway 220. Local industries fear the change would harm truck shipping to Martinsville and other northern destinations, as existing routes offer a shorter direct path. Stoneville residents protest the projected re-routing while High Point trucks might use Highway 68 north to reach the current 220 corridor. Lindley urged the Chamber of Commerce to let county residents decide the matter.
