Cancer's shifting pattern shows male deaths exceed female in 1955
The American Cancer Society reports in its tenth anniversary review that cancer deaths among men now outnumber women, with about 124,000 male and 112,000 female fatalities projected for 1955. Population aging raises overall cancer incidence, while advances save thousands. Grants for cancer research total over 35 million this year, a quarter of last year’s fundraising.
