On Sunday April 16 the Paraguayan Ministry of Defense announced advances of 10 milometers about six miles toward Fort Ballivian. Fort Ballivian is identified as a major Bolivian stronghold in the southwest Chaco.
Senator E. D. Smith told the Atlantic Cotton Association at its annual convention near Prosperity Greenville on April 16 that the nation stood on the threshold of its greatest prosperity.
Lexington April 16 two former Greenville men were arrested early today on arson charges and linked burglaries. Jack Hamby and W Taylor, both 31, were taken after officers located them in Lexington and Erlanger. Taylor denied knowledge of the burning of Owens home and Hamby reportedly admitted to additional robberies and larcenies during the night.
Weather outlook for Carolina forecasts fresh southerly winds over Hook to Hatteras with overcast tonight. South portion to Jacksonville shows moderate to southerly winds and overcast skies with showers expected Tuesday.
In Moscow, a court gave enforced labor terms to three factory supervisors after a young technician Leitin committed suicide amid a waste drive. Zolotukhin, Frolov, and Nabokov received one year, eight months, and five months respectively, with others dismissed.

Gov William H Murray and Oklahoma National Guard troops pressured county officials to cancel adver tised tax delinquent property sales. By April 16 eleven counties including Cotton Craig Garfield Blaine major Washington Beaver Stephens Choctaw and McCurtain had halted sales with troops present in a subset. County treasurer statements indicated further sales were unlikely.
Barizon, France April 16. Leon Trotzky and his wife fled their hid ing place in a Barizon villa after authorities learned of their presence. Neighbors reported a swift departure at daybreak in a black car. Surete generals launched a hunt while officials questioned how long he might stay. Trotzky fears for his life amid threats from White Russians and remains under heavy guard with two guns and police dogs nearby.
Elkin reports Edward Tharpe died instantly when a shotgun the brothers believed unloaded discharged at their Roaring River home. The incident occurred yesterday and is being investigated.
James A. Gray named vice president at the Reynolds company annual board meeting in Winston-Salem. Clay Williams, retiring president, is advanced to vice-chairman of the board. all other officers were reelected.
