End Of First Year Pluses and Minuses For High Point Group
Ray Hubbard reports on the first annual record of the Concerned Citizens of High Point Inc. The main failure is failure to meet goals for emergency low cost housing in the southwest ghetto while successes include guidance to residents and community awareness. The group formed after a local evictions story and held initial meetings in churches. They planned mobile homes as temporary housing with federal support for up to 50 units but site costs and feasibility proved prohibitive. About 12,000 dollars were invested in three occupied units. The report predicts a shift toward permanent housing and notes 3000 substandard dwellings in the city with only 1,277 public housing units projected.
