Outlook for Minimum Wage Bill Gains Momentum
The North Carolina legislature faces a likely raise from 75 cents to 1 dollar an hour with strong support from labor groups and Governor Sanford. Opponents warn of price hikes and layoffs, but proponents cite prior wage gains and steady expansion of coverage since 1959. A compromise to 85 cents is debated, yet House rules and bill title constraints push toward the full dollar target.
