Guardsmen May Get Retirement Benefits in North Carolina

A North Carolina House committee backed a bill to place regular full-time National Guard members under the Teachers and State Employee Retirement Fund. The state would pay about 810,000 as the employer share, with the federal government expected to cover the amount per the 1961 budget. General Capus Waynick said 559 Guard employees would join, including 158 in Charlotte and 80 in Butner, while others are statewide. He warned against shifting control to hiring and firing outsiders and stressed the need for passage to preserve state power.
