Dartmoor Prison officials uncovered a mutiny plot timed for King George VI's coronation on May 12. Prisoners, angered by no amnesties, allegedly targeted reduced guard vigilance. prior Dartmoor uprisings are recalled with plates and bowls hurled at officers.
European nations move to enforce a no arms no men policy in Spain. The London non intervention subcommittee orders a land and sea patrol along Spain's frontiers to begin midnight next Monday. Warships will patrol coasts and frontier agents will monitor land routes to prevent arms and men from reaching either side of the conflict.
At Chapel Hill on April 15 John W. Haasler described a taste magnet from West Virginia Pulp and Paper that extracts bad tastes odors and impurities from foods and drinks. The activated carbon device works by pulverizing carbon to increase surface area and electrical forces. It targets tastes and odors that can be reduced to liquids or gases during treatment.
President Roosevelt formally received a North Carolina general assembly resolution endorsing his court reorganization plan. Presentation was by Rep Brooks Price of Waxhaw, with Senator Robert Reynolds and Mrs Roy Lawrence of Winston-Salem attending at the White House.
RALEIGH April 15. Search is made for two inmates Andrew McGee 20 and Chester Barnes 18 8 who escaped from the Carey prison near here yesterday after digging a hole through a two foot wall. McGee had eight to ten years for a series of holdups in New Hanover county and Barnes was serving 12 to 18 for murder in Camden county.
Delegates will begin arriving for the 25th annual North Carolina Baraca-Philathea convention. About 400 to 500 people are expected. Sessions will be at First Methodist Protestant and First Baptist churches. Registration at 10 a.m. tomorrow at First Methodist Protestant. The opening session at 2 p.m. features Mrs. K Edwin Fussell of Winston‑Salem leading, with B W Hedrick presiding.
The second wing of the general headquarters air force staged a spring mimic warfare exercise at Langley Field Virginia Beach and Langley with 115 planes back at base after engaging in mock combat. Brig Gen Gerald C Brant observed a nighttime aerial review marking the end of the day's training. Participating units included the 58th attack squadron 18 B-10s the second bombardment group Rocky Mount NC 34 P-26 pursuit planes 16 PB-2 planes Selfridge Mich 21 TB-2 planes and six P-6 Ks from the eighth pursuit group Virginia Beach and Langley bases.
Hastings and Booe of Winston Salem reported to Secretary of State Thad Eure that they received 1000 in fees and 60 in expenses for acting as legislative counsel for H. 8. Stokes William J. Conrad and Miles F. Shore. The firm sought revenue bonds for a High Point PWA hydro electric plant in Yadkin county.

In Halifax last night a fast Atlantic Coast Line passenger train struck a stalled automobile at a crossing, killing Mrs. Joe Strickland and Mollie Read. Mrs. Joe Hall escaped. Strickland’s survivors include a husband and two young children.
The state board asked interested parties to submit written positions on bids for school bus bodies and chassis and the Sanders Motor Company protest against purchasing International chassis. The board awarded 300 chassis to International Harvester of Charlotte at 595 dollars for 155 inch units and 625 dollars for 188 inch units, while Ford via Sanders bid 535.52 for 15 inch units and 581.37 for 19 inch units.
Asheville April 15. Mayor Charles B. Pryant of Kilt more Forest is nominated by the town convention for re election on May 3.
Secretary Morgenthau announced a new series of 50 million dollar weekly bills to replenish the federal cash box as tax revenues lag estimates. The move aims to bridge the gap between income and outgo, with the cash balance around 8558 million and a strategy to keep near 1,000 million. He said bills are appropriate to raise funds now and would run through mid September, aligning with treasury policy on quarter-date securities.

Tennessee officers said they expected arrest within hours of two men charged with kidnapping and killing six year old Dorothy Ann Distelhurst near her Nashville home in September 1934. Wade H. Thornton identified officer said warrants issued and suspects unnamed. Robert L. Tarkington joined from Nashville to present questioning findings to the district attorney general.
New York April 15. Albert H Wiggin former CEO of Chase National Bank and Amerex Holding Corp seeks a 2 500 000 settlement amid a wave of lawsuits filed by stockholders alleging negligence in handling affairs. Plaintiffs claim combined losses exceed 103000000 from 1926 to 1934 with Wiggin and associates as defendants.
Chicago authorities seized John Anthony Buras an 18 year old garage mechanic and charged him with sending an extortion letter to actress Finger Rogers demanding 500 under threats of death. A photo of the suspect accompanied the letter mailed from a nearby south side address.

The Viscose Corporation and the union led by Sidney Hillman announced a one year contract for 20,000 ray on workers across six plants. It provides a 10 percent wage increase, minimum wage rise to $15 weekly, abolition of the third shift where feasible, and a paid one week vacation after one year of service. The agreement recognizes the textile workers organizing committee as sole bargaining agent and does not require a closed shop.
