Stock market mostly steady at midday trading
The New York Exchange showed a muted session with minor gains as the Dow Jones 30 edged to 967.56 up 0.60 while the Associated Press 60 average rose to 345.90, with Chemical and farm implement stocks advancing and retail issues soft. A large block of Southern California Edition traded at 25 and American Brands slipped 0 to 43 7/8.
