Birger Gets Stay Order From Court

Illinois gangster Charles Birger and two others were spared execution on Friday the 13th after court intervention. Gov. Small granted a reprieve for Joseph Della and Amati Rongetti also avoided the chair. Birger’s stay cites alleged insanity after sentencing.

Grady Pugh Escapes Alamance County Jail

Grady Pugh, an alleged bank robber, escaped from the Alamance county jail in Graham by coating his body with soap and sliding through a food- passage hole in the cell bars. Sheriff C D Story tracked him to Belmont cotton mills but lost the trail. Pugh then slipped from the cell, leaped to the chamber, and locked jailer’s wife Jessie Isley inside.

Four Powers Invited to Join Franco American Anti war Pact

Secretary Kellogg invited Great Britain Germany Italy and Japan to join France and the United States in negotiating a world wide pact to prevent war. Bank Robbery Suspects Identified as Local Men
