Huey Long of Seoul: Orphaned Refugee Becomes Press Camp Child
A war correspondent recalls meeting an eight year old Korean orphan named Hong Ku He who adopted the nickname Huey Long during a brutal winter retreat from Seoul. He rides back to Taegu with the reporters and becomes their pet autocrat and anchor amid fires and refugees. He learns self reliance, cooks for himself, and sings Jesus loves me at dawn. The writers reflect on his loss, resilience, and the strange bond forged in war.
