Doorbell Ring May Have Triggered Woman's Murder
New York April 11 The death of Nancy Evans Titterton is linked to a possible break in when the doorbell rang at her Beekman Place apartment. Police suspect strangulation by ligature after an autopsy found death in the bathtub. Deliverer Wiley Straughn testified he rang the lobby bell multiple times and did not go upstairs. A mystery caller with a well dressed appearance had troubled tenants earlier, asking for a girl and mumbling a man’s name.

Woman Found Dead in Tub in Ohio Home
TRUE TO TYPE Ohio, where she was born, was found at 4 p.m. by two upholstery firm drivers. They entered an unlocked door to deliver a couch and found the body in the tub wearing a slip and stockings, with a pink pajama top and red blouse tied about the neck. Bruises on the wrists suggest tying, a cord possibly used to bind to a bedpost, and no water in the lungs. The husband, Lewis H. Titterton, head of the literary rights department at a broadcasting company, said he last saw her yesterday morning. A fountain pen on a twin bed was initially linked to the killer but proven to belong to the wife.

Liquor Becomes Key Issue in 1936 North Carolina Campaign
Raleigh April 11 The liquor question grows as a major factor in the Democratic nominating race for governor with wet counties pushing county control and dry counties seeking liquor stores.
