Martial law was declared in Amoy on April 12 as authorities arrested several communists and radicals while moderates of the Kuomintang dispersed others. Most Americans who left inland China are concentrated at Kuland-Su. postal and seamen's strikes have ended.

Chinese Army Raids In Shanghai Districts Kill 12

Armed Chinese factions acting for moderate Kuomintang leaders raided four native districts in Chapei Man iano and Pootung early this morning. Twelve radicals were killed, about 600 were disarmed, and guns and ammunition seized as part of a campaign to eradicate extremists from the Cantonese Kuomintang.

A wireless message from SHANGHAT on April 12 reports Chinese troops occupying all foreigners houses and Standard Oil offices at Chinkiang. Sampans and junks on the Yangtse River were kept off by rifle fire from steam launches.

Strife Rages Between Cantonese Moderates and Radicals in Shanghai

In Shanghai clashes between Cantonese moderates led by General Chiang Kai-Shek and radical labor unions escalate. Moderates disarm radicals, seize arms, and arrest hundreds as 12 laborers are killed and many wounded in fighting across Chapei Nantao and Paotung areas.

Raleigh April 12 AP The hearing before Commissioner Murray Allen in Colonel Willie Persons suit against the North Carolina cotton growers cooperative association was postponed again within an hour of opening. The delay followed the forced absence of attorney J R Baggett in whose name the suit is brought. Holder is a minor participant in the case as he and local members respond to the ongoing legal action. The association denounces what it calls harassment and notes four prior suits by Person and their press notices. The report cites six year attorney fees totaling about 28569 dollars and business volume around 73000000 dollars with Chicago lawyer Aaron Sapiro not involved for three years.

Aviators Start Long Flight To Break Duration Record

Bert Acosta and Clarence D Chamberlain launched from Roosevelt Field at 9 30 am aiming to exceed 45 hours in the air to claim the French duration record set in 1925. Presbytery Meets At Winston Salem This Week

The Presbytery of Winston Salem will convene this evening at the North Presbyterian church tabernacle on Patterson Avenue. Prominent Doctor J P Whitehead Dies in New York

Rocky Mount April 12. Dr J P Whitehead prominent physician died suddenly last night in a New York hospital where he had gone for treatment. Remains will be brought to Rocky Mount tonight for funeral services from the Whitehead home tomorrow at 4 o clock. He is survived by his widow Miss Alta Cozart of Winston Salem, a son William C Whitehead, two daughters Elizabeth and Josephine, and two sisters Mrs R L Huffins and Mrs R P Holt.

Three Die In Crescent Limited Collision Near Charlotte

Three women died and a man and another woman were injured when the Crescent Limited struck an automobile at a grade crossing near Love's Crossing six miles west of Charlotte. The train derailed its locomotive and crews rushed to the scene as authorities reported on the victims and injuries.

Earl Carroll Leaves White Lights For Prison

High Points Cases On Trial In Greensboro Criminal Court

Greensboro Bureau of The Enterprise reports a Greensboro criminal court term focusing on High Point misdemeanors with no homicide cases. Indecent assault by J M King may be tried Friday. Judge Mc Elroy granted not guilty verdict in the Curtis abandonment case. Several defendants faced capias and nol prosse with leave as parties reportedly left the state. The Isom Hall appeal was withdrawn and remanded to the High Point municipal court.

Rum Running Prize Brought Into Cleveland Harbor

The first rum running prize of the season was towed into Cleveland harbor by a coast guard patrol boat after a brush with a liquor craft off Toledo. Two men aboard the liquor boat were taken into custody and its cargo of Canadian whisky and beer was confiscated.
