Assembly Considers Recess Instead of Sine Die
Raleigh April 9 legislative leaders weigh a possible recess of the North Carolina General Assembly rather than sine die adjournment. A recess would allow the assembly to set a return date and avoid a governor call for a special session, while a postponement could be seen as a lack of confidence in the executive.

Worthington Heads Key Assembly Committees
Rep. 5. O. Worthington of Pitt leads the calendar and rules committees shaping the general assembly’s early work and final action. His influence prompts some to joke about changing his name to Alpha Omega for his long service and control. A later debate centers on the fishing worm bill, seen as a political pressure point about new taxes and federal funds, with opponents like Rep. Alonzo Edwards warning against taxing the poor and rural residents.
