Washington AP reports March nonfarm payroll rose by 520000 to 61.7 million, while unemployment held at 3.8 percent, the first quarter average 3.8 percent. The gain exceeded seasonal forecasts by 300000 and marks the strongest period since 1950, with earnings up to 111.22 dollars weekly.
Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin presented a five year plan focused on home growth while urging U S cooperation to curb the arms race. He condemned Khrushchev’s targets and warned a new world war must be prevented as 6000 delegates attend the Kremlin congress.
