Britain plans to pay six months interest on its five billion dollar war debt to the United States after a three year deferral period ends May 15. The note to allies asserts they must similarly fund interest to Britain. Washington reports treasury has no confirmation yet.
The city plans a 259000 bond issue for a new high school to be submitted to voters after the required legal notice. Dr Dred Peacock city attorney said the ordinance calling the election could be ready for passage and publication soon with council to decide the election date later.
Police Chief L W Blackwelder orders strict enforcement of a muffler cutout ban and speed limits. Patrols will target violators with fines common for exceeding the 18 mph city limit, except on Main Street where 10 mph applies.
The president sent the nomination of Festus F. Sigman to be postmaster at Thomasville to the Senate on Monday. If confirmed, Sigman will succeed C. L. Harris who has resigned.
The Ten Ant League of Chicago outlines a plan to fight May rent increases by filing suits in municipal court and appealing to a court of records if defeated. The scheme delays outcomes by up to two years, keeping rents unchanged in the interim.
Clyde Norman and A M Fritz of High Point and R E Dawkins of Randleman faced preliminary trial in Greensboro municipal court on charges of stealing a Ford belonging to Mack Albright of Greensboro. Bonds set at 5000 each. Norman released on bond, others jailed.

Russell Wood, 18, found guilty of stealing a gold stick pin from the Southside fire station. He sold the pin for 50 cents to a Greek, who reported it to police. Judge Roval suspended judgment until tomorrow. Wood has prior court appearances and was previously fined.
The death of Lieut Col Paul Ward Beck at the Day home prompts three inquiries by county, military, and federal authorities. Mrs Day gives a detailed account alleging Beck assaulted her, Day intervened, and a pistol was drawn as Beck collapsed. coroner's inquest to follow.
Archdeacon William H. Hardin of Salisbury will visit the city tonight to conduct the 7 30 service at St Marys Episcopal Church and give a brief address on Christian teaching. The Wednesday service is a prayer and meditation rite as part of Lent with two more weekly services. Thursday’s service starts at 4 30 with even song and readings. Friday brings a children’s service at 4 followed by junior choir rehearsal.
The Life Underwriters association of High Point will hold a meeting tomorrow night at o o'clock in the chamber of commerce rooms. A program of especial interest to life insurance men has been arranged and every agent in the city is invited to attend, whether a member or not.

In Birmingham Alabama on April 5 conductor Harvey C Smith and road foreman W O McArdle were killed when a coal train wrecked between Pratt City and Ensley on the Birmingham Southern railroad.

Pearly Meadows Meadors, described as over seven feet tall and 275 pounds, was captured by Constable Crotty and a Pluto posse in Beckley for a murder charge. He allegedly beat D W Connor to death after a hog ownership quarrel and attacked Connor’s son before dragging him to a swamp. bail was denied at a preliminary hearing.

Newark New Jersey April 5 postal officers halted all mails to the American Deep Seas Trading company after a Paterson church member delivered a letter proposing a $400,000 capital liquor transport scheme. The plan called for three ships monthly between Liverpool and the three mile limit to ship whisky to rum runners outside the limit for sale at about $50 a case.
