Sunshine and firm greens produced a fast scoring start at the 31st Greater Greensboro Open as Julius Boros, Dale Morey and Gordon Jones carded 66s and 67s. Tom Weiskopf and George Archer praised the conditions while noting the course’s bite, with 57 players under par and 17 eagles overall.
Former Marine Jones reflects on six productive years lost to service and his struggle to reach top form since turning pro in 1967. Greensboro golf pro Sonny Ridenhour, playing out of Willow Creek, endured a long day at Sedgefield Country Club. After an early start and a long practice session he fired a two under par 33 on the front, finished with a 68, birdies on 14 17 and 18, and eyed a probable 70 to make the cut. He praised the course and noted the rounds are playing short with members using lower irons to reach greens.
