Compromise Reached On North Carolina Electricity Rules
Rural electric cooperatives and private power firms, urged by Gov. Dan Moore, reach a compromise bill in the 1965 General Assembly. It would allow continued service in annexed areas and new customers within 300 feet, facing opposition from 73 municipalities that sell electricity. Cities seek the right to choose suppliers for annexed areas. The measure targets coexistence of co ops, private firms, and municipal electric systems amid ongoing legal questions.
