Four more people reported killed, hundreds detained. damage exceeds two million dollars as banks and government buildings are attacked. President Ibanez cites international communism and rising costs as causes of the unrest.

The Canadian Foreign Secretary released a Ottawa statement saying Norman, a Canadian envoy, killed himself amid lingering accusations of Communist ties once raised by a U.S. Senate subcommittee. Pearson said the charges, once dismissed, were resurrected by individuals in Washington and caused personal distress.
