Washington April 4. House tax experts start effort to test their new revenue program in the chamber within a fortnight. The report notes ongoing rehabilitation work in Greensboro and Bruno claiming innocence as part of broader coverage.
In Trenton on April 4, Bruno Richard Hauptmann asked for a moment alone before his death. He knelt on the cement floor, prayed for ten minutes, and declared he was ready as pastors recited Psalm 23. His final wish was for cremation, read by his advisors. His wife was told he was at peace.
President Roosevelt signed a bill extending for one year the Federal Housing Act for home repair and modernization loans. Dr C E Burts executive secretary of the State Federated Forces for Temperance and Law Enforcement said a campaign would be waged this summer to elect a legislature that would provide a referendum to repeal liquor laws in 1937. He criticized the current primary provisions as unsatisfactory and said the group would not contest an election under those terms. The existing law allows a non mandatory referendum in the August 25 primary if 15 percent of voters in 35 counties petition.

Rome April 4 Marshall Pietro Badoglio telephoned that Italian forces in the north have scattered Ethiopian imperial troops under Emperor Haile Selassie and sent them south in desperate flight. He added that Lake Ashangi battle ended with heavy Ethiopian losses and that the emperor's bodyguard withdrew after initial clashes.
An Italian air squadron attacked the Addis Ababa airfield today firing incendiary bullets and machine gunning two Ethiopian planes. The five raiding planes carried out the attack over the capital of Ethiopia.
Increasing cloudiness and warmer tonight and Sunday in North Carolina. Light rain expected in the west portion on Sunday and in the extreme southwest late tonight.
Roosevelt signed a bill extending the modernization loan insurance to April 1 1937 and retroactive. Housing officials said earlier regulations were issued with minor changes from the National Housing Act. The act bars insurance for movable household equipment and limits eligibility to property owners or lessees lasting six months beyond loan maturity. Insurance liability drops from 209 million to 100 million dollars.
Col. and Mrs. Charles A. Lindbergh plan to stay in England for months longer. Friends say a peaceable arrangement with the owner allows use of Long Barn for the year to let Americans forget the kidnapping and the Hauptmann execution.
President Roosevelt expects another fishing trip at sea as his annual cruise nears its end. He may land on shore over the weekend with no definite time set, after issuing a proclamation from the Potomac declaring Army Day for Monday and inviting state governors to follow.
