Scarred Shooting On Whiteoak Street Under Police Probe
Police investigated a Friday night shooting on Whiteoak Street in which Clarence James Jr. was struck three times and later not admitted to hospital. James could identify his attacker, and a warrant may be issued. Several arrests followed including Columbus Harbison on multiple charges after a traffic stop for a false tag and lack of license or insurance, with the tag said to be stolen from Sarah Smith. Five persons were hurt in three accidents reported Friday and one today none seriously injured. Ronald Dee Marion and Juanita Marion were hurt when cars driven by Marion and Gertrude Holbert collided at S Wrenn Street and E Green Drive Holbert charged with red light violation. James Hogg and two others were hurt on Eastchester Drive near Centennial Avenue. Doris Thrift was hurt on Centennial Avenue near Mint Street in a collision with a car driven by Robert Gray Jenkins. Lucille Holder Ridge was injured when her car wrecked with a car driven by Kathy Spencer on Brentwood Street at E Green Drive.

Officials to Attend National Conference in Washington

Time Running Out For Tax Decision In Guilford County
Guilford County commissioners have a few days left to decide whether to place a sales tax increase on the June 8 ballot alongside a $30 million bond program. Assistant County Attorney Ralph Walker says a decision by April 15 keeps legal ads on track for a June 8 referendum. The $49 million public improvements plan includes $35.3 million for Guilford County schools and $5.2 million for Guilford Tech, with other allocations for a jail, water and sewer lines, and solid waste facilities. Commissioners have not finalized action on the sales tax, which could be voted on by the people or enacted by the board.
