AP reports from Camp Pershing detail American cavalry skirmishes with Villa followers in the Guerrero highlands. Fury of gunfire heard in the mountains as forces comb the terrain for Villa, with rumors he is being moved deeper into the ranges.
Associated Press dispatch from Paris reports a Zeppeline appeared over Dunkirk last night and dropped bombs, killing two civilians. Dunkirk, a fortified French port on the Dover Strait, has been repeatedly shelled during the war.
El Paso April 3 report that Francisco Villa has slipped from pursuing American cavalry after Guerrero. Mexican officials in Juarez clue to his whereabouts but offer no definite word. Consul Garcia disputes rumors of revolts and suggests Villa may operate with bands near the Continental Divide. Col. Dodd vows to destroy armed Villa forces threatening American communications. Carranza reports and U S aid details remain unclear.
John Byers of Asheville had his $250 mental anguish award against Southern Express overturned by the Supreme Court. The case centered on a late delivery of a casket for his wife’s burial from Asheville to Hickory Grove, S C, in 1912, with the court ruling that mental suffering cannot be recovered in interstate commerce cases.
The Interstate Commerce Commission blamed the killed engineer of the local train for the Milford wreck on February 22 that killed ten and injured many, noting he failed to regard blocks and struck a stalled express train.
Evangelist Billy Sunday was received today by President Wilson at the White House in Washington.

The First Reformed Baraca class voted unanimously to send at least one delegate to the state Baraca-Philathea convention in Goldsboro April 27 30 and subscriptions were taken to defray expenses. The class also received their national Baraca charter and Barnhart delivered a sermon on The Conversion of Saul amid strong attendance and interest.
Baltimore April 3 The Seventh annual meeting of the National Association of Fisheries commission will be held at Wilmington April 18 19 and 20. The association includes fishery officials from 16 Atlantic and Gulf states. Secretary Redfield is expected to deliver an address.
San Antonio April 3 John E Mort was tried by court-martial for leading a detachment of soldiers into Mexico to recover two American soldiers detained by Mexicans. He was found guilty and sentenced to be reprimanded. Major General Funston announced the verdict.
Berlin reports a 12,000 ton Russian transport with troops and war materials was sunk on March 30 by a Turkish submarine. The Turkish war office announced the sinking today.
London reports ten persons were killed and eleven injured in Sunday night's Zeppelins raid across Scotland with no casualties in England.
Raleigh April 3 Judge James Manning of Raleigh declared his candidacy for state attorney general subject to primary action on June 3.

A major fire in downtown New York destroyed two five story paper buildings on Beekman Street and spread to the Nassau Beekman building at Nassau and Beekman, prompting evacuation of all tenants including the New York Sun as the blaze threatened the skyscraper.

General James J. Meets, commander of North Carolina veterans, issues general order number two calling all veterans to attend the reunion in Birmingham Alabama on May 16 17 and 18. It is the first reunion headed by Metts as state leader and NC hopes for a sizable delegation. Birmingham prepares to accommodate attendees with comfort and convenience.
Secretary Daniels outlined navy needs as he resumed testimony before the House Naval Committee. It was his third day on the witness stand and the committee planned to end the hearing this week after Daniels completes his statement. The panel paused tomorrow to vote on the armor plant bill.
A cyclone hit Yellow Pine Alabama at 6 30 Sunday morning destroying nine residences and five business houses. Twenty two cattle were killed and damage is estimated around $40 000. No serious injuries reported though many escaped death as homes were demolished. D Thompsons ten room house was blown 100 feet from its foundation.

American Ambassador Gerard in Berlin reports he has been promised a reply regarding the destruction of the Sussex and other vessels that endangered Americans. The German foreign office has referred the inquiry to the admiralty, with assurance the reply will come as soon as possible.
