Market Dips as Inflation Fears Persist in Noon Trading
New York stock averages slipped at noon with the Dow down to 96.97 as declines outweighed advances on the NYSE. Analysts attributed the drop to inflation concerns and higher rates, noting a delayed reaction to Nixon's anti inflation remarks and a court decision on the Trans Alaska pipeline. Oil issues led losses with Continental Oil and Atlantic Richfield among the heaviest traded names. Loews fell after Equity Funding stake reports, while Alaska Interstate dropped on pipeline news.

A group of 16 cattlemen purchased a Columbia Missouri meat market and handed out meat to customers to show what a meatless store would feel like. Fires Continue Despite Arrests in Robeson County
Robeson County deputies report a wave of rural fires Saturday night and Sunday morning in Robeson County North Carolina in a continuing arson series linked to Indian demonstrations. Two men from Red Springs, Sandy Locklear and Martin Clark, are jailed on unlawful burning charges with bonds set at 10 000. None of the fires were occupied structures and exact counts were unclear amid limited rural volunteer fire coverage. The blaze spree follows the destruction of Pembroke State University’s Old Main and other Indian landmarks earlier in the period.
