Palm Sunday is observed as the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem with palm branches used as symbols in churches worldwide. Some regions use other branches where palms don’t grow, and the day is called Blossom Sunday in Germany and Olive or Branch Sunday in England.
The Palm Sunday service at First Methodist will begin at 11 o clock with Rev. Robert G. Tuttle delivering the sermon. The Senior singers will present Jesus is King and the Junior and Intermediate Choirs will perform A King In His Glory. A baby christening will follow.
Grace Lutheran plans Palm Sunday ceremonies around a six foot cross set up on the church lawn by the Mens Club six weeks ago. The cross will be turned and the tidings He Is Risen proclaimed. Lilies will be given by members. The Chancel Choir performs tomorrow at 5 PM and a baptismal service for infants and small children occurs at 3 PM in the sanctuary.
Emmanuel Lutheran organizes a week of devotion beginning tomorrow with a morning service and a reception of new members to precede Easter Sunday. The plan emphasizes community worship and welcoming newcomers.
The Rev. Arlo F. Newell announced baptismal services for Palm Sunday at 2 30 p m. The day will be observed with the pastor's messages during morning and evening worship services.
Revivals start tomorrow at Fairmont Park Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. Fairmont Park hosts Rev. Lloyd W. Garner Jr. from Reavis Memorial Baptist Church April 3 to 10 nightly at 7 30. Trinity Baptist hosts Rev Woodrow Woodson nightly through April 10 with its pastor delivering messages.
A special Palm Sunday sermon titled Palm Sunday Then and Now will be delivered tomorrow by the pastor of Lindsay Memorial. Further details appear on page eight.
Foreign Aid Director Harold E. Stassen to appear before the Senate Investigations subcommittee Wednesday. Dispute remains over voluntary appearance versus subpoena delivery. Kennedy says subpoena commanded Stassen to produce grain storage plant records in Pakistan for FOA financing.
Senator W Kerr Scott in his first major Senate speech attacked President Eisenhower calling him the master architect of confusion. He urged real leadership and criticized the White House for drift and risk to national security and the economy. He cited confusion over policy toward the Nationalist held and Matsus and warned against war minded leadership within the Republicans. Mrs Kimsey Dies In Crash Near Lake Waccamaw. Seven autos piled up on a smoke filled highway killing Mrs B S Kimsey of Jamestown en route to Wilmington Azalea Festival and injuring several others. The pileup was blamed on smoke from the Green Swamp forest fire and occurred on US 74 west of Lake Waccamaw. Mrs Kimsey leaves three daughters and five sons.
A new panel of jurors was ordered for the April 11 trial of Junius Irving Scales in U.S. Middle District Court. Scales, alleged to be a Communist party leader in the Carolinas and Tennessee, faces charges under the Smith Act. Judges rejected motions challenging grand jury and petit jury selection, though a new panel was ordered to remove any doubt about the process.
Mindanao disaster officials report 323 dead and 254 injured after Friday quakes in Lanao area. Lake Lanao waters dropped, hundreds of homes destroyed, widespread damage across Ozamis and surrounding towns. President Magsaysay toured the region as Red Cross raced aid to survivors.
Senator Knowland assailed Humphrey for a plan to replace Nationalist China with India on the United Nations Security Council. He argued India lacks legitimacy in a system built to oppose aggression and warned the move could mislead efforts to deter communism in the Far East.

New compounds from atom substitutions reduce required doses and increase safety, though most remain experimental.
The Defense Department confirmed four men suffered eye injuries during 1952 and 1953 Yucca Flats tests in Nevada. Only these cases were found among about 100000 participants and observers. two remain on active duty with minor reading difficulties. One former officer was blinded in one eye, and another resigned while with eye inflammation. Names were not released.
The State Highway Department plans eye catching roadside signs along U S highways including near Raleigh to reduce deaths. If successful, the signs may be widely deployed across North Carolina.
