Program of Events at Catawba County Street Fair

The Catawba County Street Fair will run November 2 3 and 4 with venues in Huffman Building Moore Milling Co J F Abernethy stables and the old German Reformed church among others. Exhibits feature agricultural machinery dairy work and live stock judging with authorities from state and US departments, A M College Raleigh and local veterinarians. Speakers include State Geologist Pratt and Maj. Graham plus President Finley. Rail fare discounts, lodging options, and hotel accommodations will be provided. entries urged to ensure strong attendance from Hickory and surrounding areas.

Lenoir College Faculty Recital Promises Free Local Entertainment

Lenoir College announces a free faculty recital in Hickory at 8 o'clock in the college auditorium. Instrumental violin and piano, plus readings and songs, will feature Miss Hallman De Wala Rudisill Mrs. Dr. Fisher and debuting Miss Stecher. The program should entertain the community with punctual start and high quality performances.

Presbyterian Church Notes Highlight Sunday Choir and Meetings

The Presbyterian Church notes list the Sunday School Chorus performing at closing exercises, practice sessions Friday at 8 PM and Sunday at 4 PM, a mission prayer meeting next Wednesday, and the pastor preaching at both Sunday services. Covenanters hold a major debate next Friday at 7 PM with refreshments, Synod convenes at Rocky Mount next week Tuesday, Rev JG Garth plans to leave Jon Monday to attend and will visit New Bern where he will preach on Oct 30. A General survey of mission fields with speakers is planned, and voters are reminded to register for the November 8 election.

Fine Cattle for Catawba Farms

The Democrat notes importation of 13 thoroughbred Jerseys into Catawba County from Alamance. Robt Scott of Alamance supplied cows and calves, sired by Eminent II from Bowman farm near Salem Virginia. Dutch Dairy Farm received eight, White Oak Dairy three, P G Herman two, with two greese donated to the Catawba County Street Fair.

Death of Mrs C L Whitener in extended illness

Mrs Cornelia Whitener wife of Attorney C L Whitener died after a prolonged illness leaving a husband two sons parents and siblings. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday at 3 PM with a large attendance reflecting her esteem among relatives and friends.

Week in the Women's Clubs Opens Promising Year

The Travellers' Club held its first meeting of the year led by president Miss M E Geitner on Thursday October 18 with Egypt as the study topic. Reports traced The Land of the Lotus Flower geography and climate and The Sources of its history. Guests included Miss Geitner's cousin Mrs Regennes of Chicago. Embroidery Club discussed fashion hobble skirts, read a servant girl story, and enjoyed refreshments as Mrs Alfred Moretz hosted. Next meeting set for Mrs A A Whitener.

Senator Dolliver Dies Suddenly in Dodge Iowa

U. S. Senator J P Dolliver, a noted insurgent leader, died suddenly at his Dodge home while a doctor listened to his heart. Also reports of a dirigible flight with six crew and a kitten crossing the Atlantic, all saved after a rough sea near Massachusetts coast. A Florida coast storm brings major damage and unconfirmed reports from Miami. In education news, Claremont College opens its Monday Evening Concert series with S D Anna delivering a standout performance and other alumni offerings. The five event series costs fifty cents for the whole, or fifteen cents per admission. next Monday's program is set for October 17.

Man Found Hiding in Chimney After Arrest in Alexander Co

Charles Hand of Alexander county was arrested at Mr Teague’s home after a warrant for fighting. Deputies Duncan and Stafford searched the Teague residence at night and found Hand’s clothes, implying he slept there. He was ultimately located up the chimney.
