Mr P C Hafer lost his dwelling and contents in a Friday fire likely caused by a defective stove flue with about 1000 dollars in damage. Mrs Isabella Flowers Marsh, wife of Capt A T Marsh, died at Taylorsville on March 18 and was buried at Rocky Springs Church. In Richmond Va last Thursday Adams brothers visited and discussed a tramroad from Armstrong Creek to the C O railroad at Woodlawn with plans to develop timber lands. firms J Adams and T T Adams anticipate large timber sales once the line opens. Chas Armfield and Anna Weeden wed at Blowing Rock with Rev Tufts and traveled to Statesville. Jessie Powell died March 19 at Pine Bluff near Southern Pines. Mrs Henry Shrum died March 19 in Lincoln County at 75. Wadesboro considers a cooperative creamery with 300 to 500 cows as a minimum. Catawba plans a 300 cow minimum.

Three Forks Lifted Spelling Cup Victory Report
Mempert Taylorsville and Vashti teams battled on March 26 with Vashti winning 10 to 6. Rob Steele, about 18, was jailed on the 25th on a grave charge in Ellendale township. An elderly 70 year old woman serves as prose cutrix in the locale. Singing contests are annual, with a silver cup as prize, and Alexander county features strong local voices across the hills.

Singing Warbler Classes Hold Semiannual Contest in Taylorsville
Community singers across Willkes county form warbler groups meet twice yearly in the Taylorsville courthouse, appoint judges, pick two or three songs, and award a rotating cup.
