In Hickory and surrounding towns a plan for a mutual dairy creamery is discussed by the Catawba County Live Stock Association. J A Conover cites 300 to 400 cows needed, capital of 1000 to 1200 dollars, and potential to raise farmers’ margins by 10 to 20 cents per pound. A carload auction and staged payments are proposed to begin. Meetings continue with plans for a January talk on creamery building.

An American chemist, Prof. Whitmore of Lenoir College, attended the annual banquet of the American Chemical Society at the Hotel Somerset in Boston on Thursday December 30. Six world renowned scientists were named honorary associate members, with Dr J W Mallet of the University of Virginia the sole American recipient. The death of 26 year old Robert Claud Hutton on New Year’s Day in Salisbury follows Christmas illness. Born in Au Sable Michigan, educated in Detroit, he rose as business manager of Martin Furniture Co. His funeral at his parents’ Hickory home drew a large crowd, and floral tributes filled the hearse as workers and friends mourned.
