Mrs Clarence Hawn Dies At Her Home
Mrs Clarence Hawn died at her home on H St on Monday evening this week. Her funeral was held from the Lutheran church Tuesday at 4 p.m. Her body was laid to rest in Oak Wood Cemetery. Mr A S Kale proprietor of Seven Springs County was here Monday and said his 58th birthday was celebrated Sunday. He appears youthful and jokey and invites visitors to Seven Springs for royal treatment.

Closing Exercises At Hickory Graded School Draw Crowds
Hickory Graded School celebrated the 1907 1908 term end with Monday and Tuesday programs that impressed patrons. The Snow White play Tuesday featured Margaret McAlister Addie Craig Bertha Bradshaw Mary B. Field Catherine Husham Weston Clinard John Murphy Swarts Richard Shuford John Aiken and 6th 8th grade children. Principal C M Staley and staff earned praise for thorough preparation and high standards while W H Morrow of Claremont died at 84 after a long decline leaving many friends and relatives.

Rev W W Daniel D D president of Columbia College For Young Women spoke to a large audience at the Graded School auditorium on Tuesday. He argued educational advantages are the best since the world began and urged self improvement and readiness to seize opportunity. He compared educators and preachers, warned youth about choosing paths, and urged giving the world the best one has to offer.

Drunken altercation near Connelly Springs turns deadly
A brawl between four white youths and two Black men in Connelly Springs left the two Black men fatally shot. Pat Berry was struck in the head. the shooting occurred after a drinking dispute. The assailants fled toward the Three Springs area, pursued by mounted men, with Burke County sheriff offering a $50 reward for the Black suspects' arrest.
