The film Hearts of the World starring Robert Harron and Lillian Gish returns to Hershey for one night with a 4 PM schoolchildren matinee at 25 cents and an evening showing at 35 cents. The epic depicts France before and during World War I with vast warfare imagery and a famed love story.
Mary Ella Hartwell daughter of Mr and Mrs P W Hartwell and Grover L Rainey of Fabers Virginia were married at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany Washington with Rev Percy F Hall officiating Captain and Mrs Fred B Sanderson attended A wedding supper followed at Mrs William Bowers home Washington DC The couple will reside in Fabers Virginia after visits to Old Point Comfort Petersburg and other points
The John Elder Men’s Bible Class of Derry Presbyterian Church met at R. S. Woomer’s home on Cocoa Avenue. After routine business the group socialized and refreshments were served. Next meeting set for October 6 at E. B. Cassidy’s home on Derry Road with listed members attending.
Hershey employees packed the Park Theatre for a safety program led by R C Paul Safety Engineer praising the plant’s accident record. He cited 88 percent better guarding 17 percent fewer accidents and the Planing Mill as the top state performer. A closing talk by J Pursel Lilley emphasized reducing carelessness and proper dress to prevent injuries.
The Welcome Home Celebration in Palmyra proved a major success last Friday and Saturday with about five thousand people from surrounding towns. Highlights included a Memorial Service with Medal of Honor presentations, a Roll of Heroes, a ball game against the Harrisburg Giants, a town parade led by returning soldiers, Lt. Governor E. E. Beidleman speaking, a Red Cross banquet, and concerts by the Palmyra Band and local musicians.
With autumn arriving, the Y W C A invites registration for gymnasium classes beginning in October. Adults and children are urged to join, bring friends, and participate for pleasure and exercise.
A Business Men's Class in Volley Ball will be formed in the gymnasium of the Hershey Men's Club Friday evening September 19. Club officials seek a large enrollment and urge every man desiring to take up athletics this winter to be present.
Hershey Department Store marks its ninth anniversary with a ten day sale across all departments. A 100 pound birthday cake baked by E. M. Baum of Palmyra will be shown and a piece given to each patron after display on Wednesday 24 and cut on Saturday 27. Ten thousand papers announce the event as a major local promotion likely tied to a move to a new building.
The Ministerial Male Quartette of the Eastern Pennsylvania United Brethren Conference will give a concert at the United Brethren Church in Ono on Sunday September 21 at 2 30 p m to aid the Preachers Aid Association. Members are Rev M H Jones Rev G W Hallman Rev H E Schaeffer and Rev Meyer Hershey. Everyone is invited.
Miss Alma M. Miller of Campbelltown and Owen Hughes of Lebanon were married Tuesday at noon in the Second Church United Brethren in Christ Philadelphia by Rev. N L Linebaugh. Hughes works for Hershey Transit Company.
The War Cabinet released figures showing 8,654,467 men served for the empire including 4,006,158 white enlistments in England and a total white force of 7,130,280 across the realm and colonies.
One of the nine days of Hershey Department Store Ninth Birthday Sale features a Free Sewing Machine demonstration by Miss Human from the factory. She will explain the machine’s home sewing possibilities and assist shoppers with sewing problems.
