Referee ruling negated Hershey’s potential late touchdown after Zimmerman crossed the goal line. Hershey and Palmyra finished tied 6–6 as Clark protested the 5 yard penalty. The sides clash again on November 8 at Hershey field.
The Halloween event was hosted by Mr and Mrs James Bobb at their home with decorations in black and gold and corn stalks. Guests included Miss Luella Forman Miss Sithel Harbolt Miss Anna Baer of Harrisburg Miss Nellie Shea Miss Martha Bebb and Miss Agnes Bobb of Hershey and others from Harrisburg Hershey Progress and surrounding areas.
The John Elder Men's Bible Class of Derry Presbyterian Church will hold its bi weekly meeting Monday evening November 8 at 8 o clock at 88 Aretha Street home of Mervin G Holland. A special business meeting is set for Friday November 7 at 7:45 p m at Rev R H Taylors 22 West Chocolate Avenue. Every member is urged to attend.
Walter Damrosch conducts the New York Symphony Orchestra at Chestnut Street Auditorium on Saturday Nov 1 as the opener of the Keystone Concert course. An old fashioned cake walk with a large cake baked by E M Baum Palmyra baker will crown the Masquerade dance in the Park Dance pavilion tomorrow evening A large crowd is expected and special cars will run from town to the hall The hall will feature Halloween designs and a special program by the orchestra The event closes the season of park dances.
Official bulletin urges boys to join now for practical patriotism and activities. It lists athletics aviation camping citizenship cycling electricity first aid life saving marksmanship military training scouting swimming and wireless telegraphy. The message stresses preparation for future service and urges immediate enlistment.
Efforts are under way to organize a Hershey Men's Glee Club with preliminary plans in progress. C. F. Zeigler leads the effort and has called a meeting for prospective members in the Men's Club Tuesday at 7 30 P M.
At a Hershey Post American Legion meeting last Friday in the P O S of A hall temporary officers were appointed to run Post 386. The roster includes Dr J L Zimmerman as Commander Ivan L Mease as Adjutant and Howard J Shellenhammer as Finance Officer. A charter-member deadline is November 11 and a public meeting for service men will be held soon. The post will handle war risk insurance and related records with officers to be elected after rough organization.
A course to prepare young men for Cow Testing Association work will run at State College from November 11 at 1 30 P M to November 20. Applicants should be 18 or older, preferably high school graduates, with good personality. Successful completion offers a likely job paying 60 to 75 dollars monthly with board and lodging. total costs aside from travel under 15 dollars. Russell Zentmyer announces the Hershey Girls basketball opening practice Tuesday at 5:30 PM in the Men's Club floor. All hopefuls should report then as a strong season schedule is planned with many away games and a possible series with Beckley girls of Harrisburg, last year's champions.
A public meeting to elect officers for the Hershey Branch of the American Red Cross Society is set for Monday at 4 pm at Mrs. Espenshade’s home on Caracas Avenue. The drive targets 1920 new members and $1062, with funds spent in the United States.
The Hershey Branch of the American Red Cross sent ten children sweaters fifteen pairs of children stockings three large sweaters one scarf and three pairs wristlets to the Harrisburg Chapter for refugees. Harrisburg Independents host St Elizabeth of Philadelphia at Chestnut Street Auditorium in the 1919 season opener. New Harrisburg players include Ben Kline and Eddie Wallower, with Haggerty at center and Ford and Gerdes in the guard spots. St Elizabeth features Lou Martin and Tom Dunleavy, promising a fast, rivalry-filled matchup.
Prof C F Sanders of Gettysburg College delivered a powerful talk on The Vocation of the Sunday School. The special offering was the largest in the history of the school.
