Campbelltown items report 36 Hershey Industrial School boys and 3 matrons hiking to a place on Sunday. Rally Day services at the Reformed Sunday school drew 136 attendees. Mr. Leib and pupils hike to Palmyra for school exercises. Rev. Laudanalager with Womelsdorf committeevisits Tuesday. Thieves raid Will Stover’s Dr Risser farm house and steal valuables.
A young man from Union Deposit was identified after a shooting at Tharshey Park on Saturday morning October 2. Police and residents were endangered as road workers were near the scene. Detective Ralph Worcester promptly clarified the incident and helped resolve the case.
Palmyra marked its biggest day with a parade and dedication of a new $80,000 public school building. Gov Brumbaugh praised local patriotism and urged extended schooling while Henry Houck recalled Palmyra’s history. 2000 attended, 600 children paraded, ceremonies led by Gabriel H. Moyer and leaders of the school board.
Local musicians organized Ruff's Symphony Orchestra in Hummelstown last Thursday. Officers elected include W. C. Cage as President and Dr. J. Irwin Ruf as Corresponding Secretary. The group performed at Zion Lutheran Church and received hearty applause. A banquet is planned for early November.
The Mothers' Club held its largest meeting of record in the kindergarten room at the School Building. Miss Langworthy's program supports a 42-student kindergarten as mothers boost local efforts, with Mrs. Elzra F Hershey presiding and Mrs. Edwards as secretary.
A wedding dinner at the home of Mr and Mrs Frank Burkeiser at Bindnagles Church honored their son John. A jolly Hershey group spent a weekend at Mt Gretna enjoying autumn weather. They hiked the surrounding hills rowed on the lake and gathered scarce chestnuts for a forecast winter. Some used 42 centimeter sticks and stones to shell treetops. A submarine battle on Lake Conewago ended when the dinner bell rang. The feast featured fried chicken and sweet potatoes as the party returned to Hershey.
Sunday night attendees included Miss Edna Landis, Miss Margaret Langworthy, Miss Anna Mowery, Miss Bessie Whittle, W. A. Curtis, R. L. Marquart, Lu, W. Meekins, and Mr and Mrs Fite of Steelton who acted as chaperones.
The Ladies' Gymnasium Class will use the Men's Club facilities Friday afternoon with swimming starting at 1 30 and gymnasium at 2 30. About fifteen members have joined and more are expected. The first class is tomorrow afternoon.
The Gymnasium Social at the YWCA gymnasium invites all women and girls for a Friday evening. The program features many stunts with costumed participants and a general good time expected.
