Wallflowers and verses in a political note
A fragmented column blends verse with political quips about youth, romance and World War era gossip. It alludes to youth culture, a tune parody, and ends by noting shifting political loyalties as the author discusses Bill Vare and Wilson in a light, local-tone aside.
Betting and wry tales spice Belgrade newspaper column
A cluttered Belgrade page mixes World Series bets among locals and farcical scraps. It notes wagers on St Louis, a minister’s possible stake, and muses on how winnings often fund splurges rather than solid plans. Local anecdotes follow, including a stove fire near Hera Perkins and a sentimental fable about life insurance.
