Hershey enters a peak building season with several new homes planned in East Hershey. D Frank Magee and Joseph R Snavely to build on occupied plots, Stoner Snavely and John F Snavely buying granada avenue lots, Mrs Alfred Wingst buys Cocoa Avenue plots, and John A Hershey acquires land near the Lutheran Church. A new United Brethren Church at 60 000 dollars is planned, signaling a major 1916 building year.

Halloween Party At Hershey Men’s Club A Huge Success

The Hershey Men’s Club hosts a Halloween event organized by the Mothers Club YWCA and Men’s Club. Activities include grand march with at least fifty masqueraders, costume prizes, Virginia Reel, Spanish Dance, Black and White, and games. Funds benefit the Kindergarten.

On November 10 routes 1 and 2 are moved from Derry Church to Horahay signaling the start of rural post office consolidations. The change reflects an effort to streamline operations and reduce duplicate facilities.

Sunday Union Services Open With a Large Attendance

The Hershey Central Theatre opened the Sunday union services to a large crowd marking strong early support for the season. Dr George Earle Raiguel of Philadelphia spoke with war pictures, while James Millard Harry Witmeyer and the Hummelstown Symphony Orchestra led a united multi town program. Next Sunday November 14 at 3 00 p m the Royal Male Quartet of Syracuse New York will perform a free concert at the Central Theatre with a full program and prompt seating.

Trolley Line to Elizabethtown to Open Soon

The Hershey to Elizabethtown trolley line will open in a few days with a new 10 mile link to the Hershey line. Trips cover 29 miles to Lancaster with fare 40 cents one way and 65 cents round trip. travel times range from about 1.75 to 2 hours.

Busy Men's Class Sees Growing Attendance and Activities

The Busy Men's Class meets Monday and Thursday evenings drawing fifteen members with new recruits each session. Start time 7:45 pm includes a lively baseball warm up, followed by calisthenics, running steps, mazes, and mat work before 8:45 pm. The class then splits for a volley ball activity.

The farm of Mary Ann Baker containing twenty two acres in Derry township was sold at public auction to Abram Holsey who will take possession on April 1.

Zeppelins Raid Test Not Damaging Hershey Press

A Zeppelin raid on London is described with one exception where a reinforced concrete building, the Hershey Press headquarters, survived intact. The report notes two bombs fell on a modern reinforced concrete structure but caused only minor damage, while other areas suffered greater destruction.

Fiftieth Anniversary Plans for Y W C A Observance

The Y W C A educational committee met to organize the fiftieth anniversary of the Y M C A by America. A February jubilee will educate members on the association’s work for girls nationwide. Hershey Association plans a membership rally and March third birthday exercises with a national secretary speaker. A Historical Pageant of Girls Yesterday and Today will be presented during the month.

Cap and Hat Worn 58 Years Show Prized Wear

A Derry Church man, Zimmerman, presents a cap worn for 58 years and a hat worn for 61 years both in excellent condition. The cap cost ten dollars and the Philadelphia hat dates to when Mr Aammerman ran a store at Blndangles Church.

All the Churches Will Unite For a General Thanksgiving

Three Hershey congregations unite for Thanksgiving Day services at the Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity. The 10 a.m. service will be led by Rev. John Irwin Meek with Rev. N. L. Linebaugh assisting and Rev. George Snavely Rentz delivering the sermon. Music is planned to be attractive and a large crowd is expected.

Concert For the Students at Hershey Central Theater

Feese directs a concert for Consolidated School of Derry Township at Hershey Central Theater Friday night starting at 8. Program includes Oberon Overture by Weber, selections from Aida and Adele, Sounds of Evening, Largo from New World, and gems from Foster, Rossini, and Dvorak among others.

Pleasant Up-To-Date Club welcomes ten new members

The Up-To-Date Club of the Young Women's Christian Association held recognition services last Wednesday evening. Ten new members joined: Grace Shearer, Mabel Murley, Mabel Kyebbs, Mary Mathers, Mary Detweiler, Anna Rayne, Pearl Collins, Katie Bowman, Froda Whitman. The room featured green and white decorations and refreshments were served. A play is planned for the near future.

Four Carloads of Cattle Arrive at Horshey Farms

Four carloads of fattening cattle were received from the Lancaster stock yards last week. They will be placed on the Horshey farms for fattening and later slaughtered at the Horshey abattoir.

The Derry Presbyterian Church hosts Arbor Day activities this Saturday at 2 15 PM. Governor to speak as speakers recount Old Derry history from 1720 to present and trees are planted by Hershey and Derry groups, with music from Hershey High School Chorus.
