Excitement in Hershey as two American black bears arrived early in the week and were confined in the large pit on Monday. Crowds packed the area to watch the bears dive into a pool and perform antics. By Tuesday the county gathered to see Bret Bruin, with praise for the bears and a nod to Hershey's chocolate.
At the United States Travelers' Protective Association State Convention Lebanon post secured Hershey as the next site. The gathering will convene mid May with about 300 to 400 delegates expected.
A festival will be given by the Ladies' Guild of Derry Presbyterian church on the above date at the Hose House, Fler shey. The ladies seek help to place pews in the church and ask for support. A quote from Hugh Penticost appears urging defiance of conventions and perseverance in preaching new doctrines.
Eli Rhine and crew began digging the old pool on Thursday morning. The planned pool measures 150 feet by 50 feet with depth from three to six feet, to receive a concrete base. After completion it will be filled weekly to maintain proper bathing temperature. Hershey plans a toboggan slide and another bathing house.
Hershey AYS announces a Saturday afternoon gathering at 2 15 featuring Felton A C and related activities for local youth basketball program participants.
Ira Hershey begins work on a new baseball diamond in Hershey Park on the open area at the lower end near Peters Woods. He and helpers will organize evening work sessions for volunteers to assist in laying out and preparing the field.
An ice cream festival will be held in Hockersville on Saturday May 21 to raise funds for the Hockersville baseball team.
The Hershey Dramatic Club met Thursday and decided to rehearse another play. They will present the production in June at the Park's large theatre.
Miss Mary Painter visited friends in Harrisburg on Sunday. Mrs. Hensel of Lykens and son Forrest, a Lebanon Valley College student, were Hershey visitors on Friday. Israel Moyer did business in Lebanon on Tuesday. Census enumerator Harry Zimmerman nears completion in the third precinct. A E Moyer of Palmyra hosted visitors on Tuesday. John Walmer of Palmyra hauled coal for A E Hershey’s steam mill. Bill Walker handles railroad ties for Frank Bonfetti. Elma Litter of Dauphin visits Mr and Mrs John Conrad. Cora Witman of Harrisburg visited the Conrads on Sunday. John and Chas Snavely shopped in Lebanon Saturday. Mr and Mrs Charles Stuckey visited friends in Reading on Saturday. William Curtis suffers with mumps.
