Fifth Annual Commencement Honors 1911 Graduates
The Fifth Annual Commencement welcomed the 1911 graduating class with a decorated stage and music by a Harrisburg orchestra. Mary Elizabeth Painter gave the salutation on “The Social Evolution of Women,” while Warren Fisher Brandt spoke on John Hay. Valedictorian Catherine Elizabeth Witman delivered “The Statue of Faith” about moral and educational ideals, followed by Dr Frederick E. Downes presenting diplomas and Rev John A. MacDonald giving the benediction. The class motto Nur ein Anfang signals new beginnings.

Fire Destroys Barn At Derry Church Stop
Fire erupted at mid day at a barn owned by Harry F. Imboden near the Derry Church trolley stop. Women waiting for the trolley observed flames as volunteers hurriedly deployed the fire apparatus from the Workmen factory area to the creek below Chocolate avenue. The blaze quickly gained headway before alarms fully spread.

Fire destroys historic 1803 barn near Imboden farm
A barn built in 1803 burned after sparks carried by the wind spread to fields. One horse and a calf perished while oats wheat and corn were stored but not in large amounts. The barn was insured in Hummelstown and the contents in Palmyra with partial coverage expected.

Volunteer Fire Company Holds Informal Smoker Meeting
The Volunteer Fire Company responded to an invitation for an informal smoker on Tuesday evening. A regular business meeting followed at 8 o'clock and discussed taking an inventory of supplies. The latter part of the evening was spent in discussion and listening to tales of individual heroism.
H H and P Club Dance At Hershey Park
The H. H. and P. Club held the second in formal dances at Hershey Park on Tuesday evening. About thirty couples attended to enjoy the evening. An orchestra from Harrisburg provided the music. The committee in charge included Omar Hummel L. R. Mumper Charles E. King and Samuel Miller.
